Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both views and give a clear personal position: you favour friends who challenge harmful or mistaken decisions, while acknowledging that support can strengthen trust. The examples about protecting a friend from crime and discouraging illegal acts are relevant to the contrast. This meets the task well, but the discussion is uneven: the first view is mainly presented as loyalty that can enable wrongdoing, so the benefits of choosing like-minded friends are not fully explored. Some claims, such as teenagers encouraging immoral behaviour, are broad and would be stronger with a more specific explanation. To develop the response further, explain when agreement is valuable as well as why honest disagreement can help, and connect each example more directly to the argument.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your preference. Signposting such as “On one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow. The contrast between supportive friends and friends who challenge harmful choices is also maintained throughout. However, some links are mechanical, and references are occasionally unclear—for example, “this decision” and “this characteristics” do not point smoothly to a specific idea. The first body paragraph also moves quickly from trust to crime and then to teenagers, which weakens the progression. Use fewer formulaic transitions and organise each paragraph around one main reason, followed by explanation and a clearly connected example.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “trustworthy relationship,” “illegal act,” “difficult situation,” and “good companionship,” and the reader can generally understand your meaning. There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “immoral act” and “unintentionally.” However, inaccurate word choice and collocation are noticeable and sometimes make ideas awkward: “a greater number of proportion are usually hide negative things” and “it safes your friend from bad happening” are difficult to interpret naturally. Several phrases repeat “friend,” “decision,” and “wrong,” limiting flexibility. Focus on learning common word partnerships and choosing precise expressions—for example, “conceal wrongdoing” or “prevent a friend from getting into trouble”—rather than translating phrases directly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “although,” and “whether,” and the overall message remains understandable. However, control is inconsistent, with frequent errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction. Examples include “some individuals thinks,” “it build strong relationship,” and “everyone prefer”; these subjects require matching verb forms. There are also faulty constructions such as “younger children are prefer” and “sometimes person does not able to recognize,” which make the reader work to understand the intended meaning. Punctuation is also uneven, including the unnecessary comma after “I believe that.” Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, then build complex sentences around them and check subject–verb agreement and articles.
