Student answer (Band 6.0)

It has been observed that, sometimes two closest friends are having a different or similar minset. Some people believe that it is always substantial to have the similar mentality for becoming friends. However, some opponents may counterclaimed that fact and think, it is good to have a person, who can disagree with you sometimes. Before my preference both the viewpoints will be discussed in the upcoming paragraphs with valid reasons and appropriate examples.

Discussing the former view, the foremost one is that similar minset can be helpful to stregthen bond between friendship. They can easily mix and adapt their nature. For instance, it has been observed that two social workers share the good bond because they have the same thought process and kindness. On top of that, sometimes their similar choice is the reason for strong friendship. Moreover, same interest can bring them together as well. For example, two school students are best friends because they both like to play volleyball.

Discussing the later view, some people are thinking that it is pivotal to have friend who can sometimes disagree with you. Furthermore, it is not necessary to always agree with your friend thinks, a real friend will always take a truth side and give a meaningful advice. A real friend should be like your real mentor. Moreover, if disagreement will be immensely beneficial for you then, your friend is your true friend. To illustrate, your friend saying that drinking alchol is not injurious to your health and you need to correct he or she that it will detoriate your liver health.

Based on the aforementioned reasoning, I believe in the later view of this statement. It is really great for your well being to have friend who will give you an honest opinion about any situation. Otherwise, salt also looks like sugar, with the people with same mentality you will feel safe around them but they can not correct you and it will not improve your productivity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both views and gives a clear personal preference: the final paragraph supports friends who offer honest disagreement. The first body paragraph explains how shared interests and attitudes can help people bond, while the second presents a relevant point about truthful advice. These examples keep the discussion on topic. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that friends with similar mentalities “will feel safe” but cannot correct you is broad and would benefit from a more precise explanation or example. The alcohol example also becomes confusing because it first says a friend claims drinking is not harmful, then describes correcting that claim. Develop each side with clearer reasoning and make the examples directly illustrate the point.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion that states your opinion. The progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Discussing the former view” and “Based on the aforementioned reasoning” help identify the stages of the argument. However, these transitions are somewhat formulaic, and some linking phrases do not create a clear logical connection. In the second body paragraph, “Furthermore” and “Moreover” introduce related claims without showing how they build on one another. The final comparison involving salt and sugar is also abrupt. Use fewer stock transitions and connect each example explicitly to the claim it supports; clearer referencing would make the argument flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of vocabulary relevant to friendship and advice, including “bond,” “mentality,” “meaningful advice,” and “honest opinion.” This gives the response enough variety to discuss both viewpoints, and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “minset,” “stregthen,” “alchol,” and “detoriate.” Some combinations are also unnatural: “the similar mentality,” “take a truth side,” and “improve your productivity” do not express the intended ideas naturally in this context. Aim for accurate, conventional collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise phrases such as “shared outlook,” “give honest advice,” and “personal growth” would make your argument clearer and more appropriate to the topic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, such as “if disagreement will be immensely beneficial for you then…” and the contrast introduced by “However.” The overall meaning can usually be followed, but some sentence patterns are not controlled accurately. For example, “sometimes two closest friends are having” uses an awkward tense construction, and “it is not necessary to always agree with your friend thinks” has an incomplete grammatical relationship between the clauses. There are also errors in articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, as in “have friend” and “a real friend will always take a truth side and give…” Review clause structure and verb forms, and proofread articles and punctuation. More accurate complex sentences would help express the reasoning without obscuring it.
