Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is Simarpreet Singh, and I am writing this letter to express my feedback on my recent completion of a three week cookery course provided by your institute.
I really enjoyed my time during the course, specially learning about the traditional methods of cooking which provides the authentic taste of old time. Additionally, I got to know about real use of Indian spices for particular recipe.
During my course, I have learned many traditional recipies such as cooking lentins, curries, making tortillas and many more. I really liked the way your faculty taught me to make desserts which is my favorite after every meal.
I have an another request to you, if your institute could provide one more course on Italian dishes as it is becoming popular in our country as well. I would like to join this course in my next vacation period.
Thanks and regards
Simarpreet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You described what you enjoyed, mentioned your cooking practice (though this point was slightly underdeveloped as you focused more on what you learned than how much you have cooked since), and suggested an Italian course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a course director. To improve, ensure that each bullet point is given equal weight and detail. For example, explicitly stating how often you have cooked at home since the course would have strengthened the second requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. Paragraphing is used to separate the different points, which helps the reader navigate the text. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic. Phrases like 'Additionally' and 'During my course' are functional but repetitive. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the transition between your enjoyment of the course and your request for a new one feels more fluid.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning clearly. You used some topic-specific terms like 'traditional methods', 'authentic taste', and 'Indian spices'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'recipies' (recipes) and 'lentins' (lentils). Additionally, the phrase 'real use of Indian spices' is slightly unnatural. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations would enhance the quality of your writing and help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'I have an another request to you' (should be 'I have another request') and 'which is my favorite' (referring to desserts, which should be plural). Punctuation is generally correct, but some phrasing is slightly awkward. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and article usage. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but more error-free complex structures are needed for a higher band.
