Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to give my positive feedback on cookery course, which I attended last month in my town.
I enjoy a lot during cookery course, as it access me an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge regarding various authentic Indian spices and flavours. Moreover, head chef of the course was polite and their way of teaching was amazing and interesting, which foster me to attend all classes and keep trying to cook something delicious and tempting.
It was 10-days course, therefore, I got a chance to prepare almost 15 dishes, which were authentic-Indian cuisines. Also, most of the dishes were vegetarian and some were non-vegetarian and I got support and guidance while cooking meals, which significantly enhance my experience and culinary skills.
It would be grateful if you could arrange another cookery course in our town soon. Additionally, try to add other cultural dishes like, Mexican, Italian, Chinese and Korea in order to provide a lot of options to the learners and getting a maximum number of students due to availability of diverse choices.
I hope my feedback will be helpful to you in order to gain popularity among the society. Please let me know if you need any help. I look forward to your prompt response in this matter.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Twinkle

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You described your enjoyment of the course, mentioned the dishes prepared, and suggested new course offerings. However, the second bullet point regarding how much cooking you have done since the course is missing. You mentioned the dishes you prepared during the course, but you did not explicitly state your cooking habits after the course concluded. To improve, ensure you address every specific instruction provided in the prompt. Despite this omission, the tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'Therefore' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with paragraphing logic. For example, the transition between the description of the course and the suggestion for new courses could be smoother. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the progression of ideas is generally logical, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0 level.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'authentic', 'culinary skills', and 'tempting'. There are some instances of awkward word choice or minor errors, such as 'access me an opportunity' (should be 'gave me') and 'foster me' (should be 'encouraged me'). Additionally, 'Korea' should be the adjective 'Korean' to match the other listed cuisines. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over collocations and word forms to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I enjoy a lot during cookery course' (missing articles and incorrect tense), 'It was 10-days course' (missing article), and 'It would be grateful' (should be 'I would be grateful'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and ensuring that complex sentence structures are grammatically sound.
