You recently did a short cookery course. The cookery school has asked for your feedback on this course. Write a letter to the course director at the cookery school. In your letter
- describe what you enjoyed about the course
- say how much cooking you've done since the course
- suggest another cookery course you’d like the school to offer
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. The purpose of writing this letter is not only to thank you for your perfect management at school but also I would love to advice a course which your school should adopt.
To begin with, I completed my cookery course last month with certification. The teachers and an environment were amazing there. If I had not taken admission in this, probably I would not have a position of certified cook.
Moreover, I learned not only Indian dishes but also got to know about Nepali and Pakistani foods. I am really pleased to inform you that I received an offer letter from a hotel as a senior chief.
However, there is always a room of improvement, here I would like to suggest you to interduce six month course therefore some students are unable to capture all information in three months. I surely believe that this course will helpful for students and facility as well.
Thank you for your support and I hope you will think about my suggestion.
Yours faithfully,
Sachin Sharma

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described your enjoyment of the course, mentioned your recent cooking activities (getting a job as a senior chef), and suggested a six-month course. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a course director. However, the development of ideas is slightly limited; for instance, you mention you have been cooking but do not elaborate on the specific types of dishes or the frequency of your practice. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are expanded with more detail and specific examples to fully satisfy the reader's interest.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'However' to transition between ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some of the linking is a bit mechanical. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing and sentence structure that occasionally disrupt the flow, such as the phrasing 'here I would like to suggest you to interduce'. Improving the variety of your cohesive devices and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'certification', 'management', and 'senior chief'. However, there are some noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'advice' (used as a verb instead of 'advise'), 'interduce' (introduce), and 'senior chief' (likely 'senior chef'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit your score. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology and double-checking the spelling of common professional terms. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated collocations would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional 'If I had not taken admission in this, probably I would not have a position...'. However, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, including 'the teachers and an environment' (article usage), 'taken admission in this' (unnatural collocation), and 'this course will helpful' (missing verb). While these errors are frequent, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your message. To achieve a higher band, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and ensuring that all complex sentences are grammatically complete.
