Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as it is significantly under-length at 97 words. While you have addressed all three bullet points—describing what you enjoyed, mentioning your cooking frequency, and suggesting a new course—the ideas are underdeveloped due to the brevity of the text. Furthermore, the letter is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence ('which really ben'). To improve, you must expand on your points with more detail and ensure the letter reaches the required length to fully develop your ideas and provide a proper closing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a basic logical structure, with an introduction and body paragraphs. However, the abrupt ending significantly disrupts the coherence of the final paragraph. Cohesive devices are used sparingly, such as 'Although' and 'Since completing this course', but the overall flow is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. To achieve a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully expressed and that you use a wider variety of linking words to connect your sentences and paragraphs more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. Phrases like 'express my experience' and 'easy to follow' are functional but lack the precision expected at higher levels. There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'classes flexibility' (should be 'the flexibility of the classes') and 'each part of course' (missing an article). To improve, try to incorporate more specific vocabulary related to cooking and education, and pay closer attention to article usage and word order.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains several grammatical errors that affect clarity. There are missing articles throughout, such as 'did recently in your institute' (should be 'that I did recently') and 'cookery course was' (should be 'the cookery course was'). Sentence structures are generally simple, and the attempt at a complex sentence in the final paragraph is left unfinished. To improve, focus on consistent subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and ensuring that your complex sentences are completed correctly to avoid confusion.
