Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to share my feedback regarding a short cookery course that I completed recently at your institute.
Although the cookery course was only for one month, my overall experience was wonderful, especially because of flexible class schedules and professional teachers. The classes timetable was easy to follow for everyone and the teachers really helped us to learn each part of the course.
Since completing this course, I am cooking regularly at home. This course really changed my daily eating habits as now I prepare healthy meals for my family, even on small gatherings as well, which really benefited for me to save both money and time.
I really appreciate for the efforts your team put to make this course more enjoyable. However, I would like to suggest one more cookery course to offer for those students who have already cookery experience, which may allow them to extend their knowledge and skills in food industry.
Thank you for your time and efforts for this course and considering my solution.
Yours faithfully,
Sukhpreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe what you enjoyed (flexible schedules and professional teachers), explain your current cooking habits, and suggest a follow-up course for experienced students. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a course director. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing a clear response to the task requirements. To reach a higher band, ensure that the suggestion for the new course is slightly more specific regarding the type of cuisine or skill set you would like to see covered.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. Each paragraph focuses on a single aspect of the prompt, which aids readability. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Since', and 'However' to link ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, the transition between the benefits of the course and the suggestion for a new one could be more sophisticated. The use of paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the overall structure is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'professional teachers', 'daily eating habits', and 'extend their knowledge' are used effectively. There are some minor collocation errors, such as 'appreciate for the efforts' (should be 'appreciate the efforts') and 'have already cookery experience' (should be 'have previous cooking experience'). Despite these minor inaccuracies, the vocabulary is adequate for the task and does not impede communication. Using more precise collocations would elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are clear, though there are occasional grammatical slips, such as 'which really benefited for me' (should be 'which really benefited me' or 'which was beneficial for me') and 'considering my solution' (which is slightly unnatural in this context; 'considering my suggestion' would be better). Punctuation is generally accurate, and the formal tone is maintained throughout. The errors present are minor and do not cause difficulty for the reader, fitting the criteria for a Band 6.5 or 7.0.
