Student answer (Band 8.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to provide my feedback on the cookery course that I recently completed at your school.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the course. The instructors were friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to answer questions. I especially liked the practical cooking sessions because they gave us the opportunity to
prepare a variety of dishes ourselves. The recipes were easy to follow, and the class atmosphere was enjoyable and encouraging.
Since completing the course, I have been cooking at home at least four or five times a week. I have prepared several of the dishes we learned in class for my family and friends, and they have all received positive comments. I now feel much more confident in the kitchen and enjoy trying new recipes on my own.
For future course, I would like your school to offer a healthy vegetarian cooking course. many people are becoming interested in nutritious, plant-based meals, and so such a course would help students learn how to prepare delicious and balanced vegetarian dishes using simple ingredients.
Thank you for organizing such a valuable course. I look forward to attending another one in the future
Your faithfully,
Harleen

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.5
You have fully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described your enjoyment of the course by highlighting the instructors and practical sessions, explained your post-course cooking frequency, and provided a clear suggestion for a future vegetarian course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a course director, and the ideas are well-developed and relevant. The letter follows the required structure and maintains a consistent focus throughout, meeting all the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which makes the information easy to follow. You have used appropriate cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Since completing the course', and 'For future course' to link your ideas. The paragraphing is logical and contributes to the overall clarity of the message. The flow between sentences is smooth, and the letter maintains a professional and coherent structure from beginning to end.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You have used a good range of vocabulary that is appropriate for the context of a feedback letter. Phrases like 'thoroughly enjoyed', 'practical cooking sessions', and 'nutritious, plant-based meals' demonstrate a solid command of language. While the vocabulary is accurate and fits the task well, it remains somewhat standard. To reach a higher band, you could incorporate more sophisticated collocations or less common lexical items. However, the current range is sufficient to convey your meaning precisely and naturally throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 8.0
Your grammar is generally accurate, and you have successfully used a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. For example, the sentence 'Many people are becoming interested in nutritious, plant-based meals, and so such a course would help students learn...' is well-constructed. There are very few errors; however, there is a minor punctuation error in the closing ('Your faithfully' should be 'Yours faithfully') and a capitalization error at the start of the third paragraph ('many people'). Despite these minor slips, the majority of your sentences are error-free and clear.
