Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my genuine feedback on the cookery course, I completed recently. My name is Nav, student no. 6499. I enrolled in this course because cooking is my passion. I basically enjoyed your teaching style. You taught knife skills in such a creative way that I will never forget it. Moreover, I liked the timings of the course as I am a working professional.
Since the course started I have done so much cooking because the main focus of the course was to teach international cuisines. I tried making every dish I learned at institute. Although, there were some dishes which were technical and difficult to make. I practiced it several time to get mastery in it.
Lastly, I would like school to start a new cookery course about tips and tricks of cooking. This will help many individuals to manage their kitchen. In addition, school can also teach about presentation and how to make a dish more appealing.
I hope you will take my suggestion into consideration.
Thank you
Your faithfully,
Nav

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly described what you enjoyed (knife skills and timing), explained your cooking frequency since the course, and suggested a new course topic. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a course director. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the 'how much cooking' section by providing a specific example of a dish you prepared, which would add more depth and detail to your response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Since', 'Although', and 'Lastly' to link ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the transition between sentences is smoother. For instance, the sentence 'I practiced it several time to get mastery in it' feels slightly disconnected from the previous sentence. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Phrases like 'genuine feedback', 'working professional', and 'take my suggestion into consideration' are used correctly. There are some minor errors, such as 'at institute' (should be 'at the institute') and 'practiced it several time' (should be 'times'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more precise or sophisticated collocations would help elevate the score. You generally use words accurately, and your meaning is never in doubt.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are some grammatical slips, such as the comma splice in the first sentence ('...course, I completed...'), the missing article before 'school', and the incorrect closing 'Your faithfully' (should be 'Yours faithfully'). Despite these errors, your meaning is consistently clear, and the errors do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as well as ensuring that complex sentences are punctuated correctly.
