You recently did a short cookery course. The cookery school has asked for your feedback on this course. Write a letter to the course director at the cookery school. In your letter
- describe what you enjoyed about the course
- say how much cooking you've done since the course
- suggest another cookery course you’d like the school to offer
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to give my feedback regarding the cookery course I learned from your school. I was on the seventh cloud when I got admission in your school and honestly I really enjoyed the classes because the staff was well experienced and supported as well.
Furthermore, I learned a lot of cooking during my 3 week classes and now I am also aware how to prep a meal in a professional way because sometimes we have to prep any time of meal for colleagues or important relatives which looks more attractive.
However, I would like to suggest that you should also start Italian cooking classes also because every Indian is more curious about learning foreign dishes and it would be great if you will provide those classes also and I am pretty sure that I will be your student again. Once again I would like to thankyou from core of my heart to teach me such skills in a short period of time.
Thanks and Regards
Anamika

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: describing what was enjoyed, mentioning post-course cooking activity, and suggesting a new course. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a course director. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the second bullet point regarding how much cooking has been done is vague, stating only that the student learned a lot and is now aware of how to prep a meal. To reach a higher band, the student should provide more specific details about what they have cooked or how often they have practiced since the course ended.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. Paragraphing is used to separate the different points, which aids readability. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'However', and 'Once again' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, though the connection between the second paragraph's focus on professional meal prep and the third paragraph's suggestion for Italian classes could be smoother. Overall, the information is organized in a way that is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, though it lacks sophistication. The student uses some informal or slightly awkward phrasing, such as 'seventh cloud' (an incorrect idiom; 'on cloud nine' is the standard) and 'prep any time of meal'. There is also some repetition of words like 'classes' and 'cooking'. While the meaning is always clear, the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and the student relies on basic collocations. To improve, the student should aim for more precise terminology related to culinary arts and avoid non-standard idiomatic expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I learned a lot of cooking during my 3 week classes' (should be 'three-week'), 'every Indian is more curious' (over-generalization), and 'thankyou from core of my heart' (missing articles). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences and missing commas that affect the flow. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures while focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would be beneficial.
