Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses all three bullet points: it mentions enjoyment of the course, describes cooking activity since the course, and suggests a new Chinese cookery course. However, the development of these ideas is hindered by significant linguistic errors, making the content difficult to follow. For instance, the description of what was enjoyed is vague and lacks clarity due to poor sentence structure. While the task requirements are technically met, the lack of clarity in expressing ideas means the response does not fully communicate the intended message effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter is divided into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical flow is frequently interrupted by disjointed sentences and unclear referencing. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the awkward transition 'However, that course taken saveral new learning gain.' The relationship between ideas is often opaque, and the reader must struggle to connect the sentences to understand the writer's intent. The overall structure is mechanical rather than fluid.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is limited and often misused, which significantly impacts the clarity of the message. Phrases like 'voluminous of new variety' and 'multifarious recipes made' are unnatural and demonstrate a lack of control over word choice and collocation. There are frequent errors in word formation and usage, such as 'raining' instead of 'training' and 'sggest' (spelling). The range is insufficient to express ideas with precision, and the errors often force the reader to guess the intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There is a lack of control over basic sentence structures, with many sentences being fragmented or ungrammatical, such as 'I am writing this letter regarding share mane feedback my said.' Verb tense usage is inconsistent, and there are persistent errors in word order and article usage. While there is an attempt at complex structures, these are almost always faulty, leading to a lack of clarity. The high frequency of errors makes the text difficult to read.
