Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my feedback that I had in your course.
I have completed a short cookery workshop last month and it was truly amazing experience. There are many things that I enjoyed a lot in this course like communication with you and multi cuisine recipes. Techniques and tips that you gave us is very helpful for me.
I was not a big fan of cooking, but after completing your workshop I do enjoy cooking and frequently try to make new various meals. For example, last weekend I made Indian items and my family members liked. Also, two days before I tried to make an apple tart, Although was not as good as you do, my friends like a lot and got positive feedbacks.
Well, I would like to take part in specific Italian pizza session. So, I kindly request you to organize next workshop related to this.
I am looking forward to your answer.
Thank you,
Revanshi.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described what you enjoyed (the communication and recipes), mentioned your increased cooking frequency, and suggested an Italian pizza course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a course director. To improve, you could provide slightly more detail in your suggestions to fully develop your ideas, as the current response is quite brief. However, all requirements of the task are met, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'For example', 'Also', and 'Well' to connect your ideas. While the flow is generally good, the transition between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the jump from discussing your family's reaction to suggesting a new course is a bit abrupt. Using a wider variety of linking words or phrases would help improve the overall flow and coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'workshop', 'multi-cuisine', and 'techniques'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'express my feedback that I had in your course' (should be 'provide feedback on the course I attended') and 'Indian items' (which is vague; 'Indian dishes' would be more precise). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement ('Techniques and tips... is very helpful') and missing articles or prepositions ('Although was not as good as you do'). Additionally, 'my friends like a lot' is missing an object pronoun ('liked it a lot'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tenses will help improve your accuracy.
