Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my satisfaction with the cookery course; I did in your school, last week end.
I really enjoyed baking and this course polished my skills to decorate muffins and cake. In addition to this, I learned how to bake lemon cake, which I wanted to learn for a while.
Usually, I cook for family and friends. However, after this course I have started taking orders for birthday and small party cakes. This course has encourged me to start a small bakery which I always dream of but never had courage. The chef, Amy, has showed her turst and pushed me to do my best.
I will like to suggest another short course for how to make 3 tier cake for the weddings. It will be benefical who are not able to invest large amount of money and time into this classes. I would love to take an another course like that.
I look forward to see my suggestions to convert into actions in real life.
Yours faithfully,
Rajbir

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described your enjoyment of the baking course, explained your recent cooking activities, and provided a clear suggestion for a future course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a course director. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, particularly the personal impact the course had on your confidence and business aspirations. To reach a higher band, ensure that all parts of the prompt are addressed with equal depth; for instance, the suggestion for the 3-tier cake course could be slightly more detailed regarding why this specific skill is needed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition to this' and 'However' to link your ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task. To improve, try to vary your cohesive devices further, as some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Additionally, ensure that referencing is always clear; for example, in the phrase 'benefical who are not able', a relative pronoun like 'for those who' is needed to maintain smooth flow and logical connection between the ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'polished my skills' and 'encouraged'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'showed her turst' (should be 'showed her trust') and 'convert into actions' (should be 'put into practice'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage. To improve, focus on learning common collocations related to professional feedback and course descriptions to enhance the naturalness of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'last week end' (should be 'last weekend'), 'I will like to suggest' (should be 'I would like to suggest'), and 'take an another course' (should be 'take another course'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some minor issues with sentence construction. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To reach a higher band, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and modal verbs.
