Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
First of all, I would like to thank you to ask my review about the cookery course that I just finished last month in your school. I must say that my course which provided cooking lesson on making traditional Indian dishes taught me very well about cooking.
The most important thing for me in that course was the standard of teaching by your school teachers. They all were well equipped with proper knowledge of ingredients, cooking techniques and different kinds of traditional dishes from all over India.
After completion of my coursue, I moved to Canada to study for my post graduation course and lessons I learned during this course are helping me in my daily life. I use the learnings from this course to cook independently for myself for past six months. Even some of my Indian friends at college are impressed with my cooking skills and I always try to prepare authentic Indian dishes for them since I joined my new school.
In future, I recommend you to provide course on mandarin food through online platform so that even indians living abroad like me can also join the course online. I suggest mandarin food because its similarities with Indian food. I hope you'll consider my suggestion and soon I have a chance to enroll in your new course.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You described your enjoyment of the course, specifically highlighting the teaching standards. You explained your cooking habits since the course, and you provided a clear suggestion for a new course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that your opening is more natural; for example, 'thank you for asking for my feedback' is more idiomatic than 'thank you to ask my review'. Overall, the ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'First of all', 'After completion of', and 'In future', which help guide the reader. However, the transition between sentences could be smoother in some places. For instance, the connection between your move to Canada and your cooking habits could be more tightly linked. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall structure is coherent and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'ingredients', 'cooking techniques', and 'authentic'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'mandarin food' (which should be 'Mandarin' or 'Chinese cuisine') and 'learnings' (which is often better expressed as 'skills' or 'knowledge'). While you attempt to use a variety of words, some phrasing is slightly unnatural. Expanding your range of collocations and ensuring precise terminology would help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'thank you to ask my review' (should be 'thank you for asking for my review') and 'since I joined my new school' (should be 'since joining'). There are also minor issues with articles and prepositions, such as 'in future' (should be 'in the future'). Despite these errors, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of tense when describing past experiences versus ongoing habits.
