Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am Tinkal Patel. I have completed a Bake with Fun cookery course last week and I am writing to give my feedback on this course.

To commence with, the course was about how to bake a different kind of breads and cookies. I was very nervous before the course but the trainer was very good and he has taught us baking with simple techniques. He was a skilled trainer and he was very polite while teaching us. His sense of humor was on point so, I have learned baking with fun. It was overall a very good experience. Since then, I have baked many garlic breads and cookies many times. And it turns out super delicious, everyone in my family liked it.

Lastly, I would like to suggest that arrange a course for Italian cuisine. Since it is trending and everyone would love to learn that how to make Italian dishes.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your positive response.

Yours faithfully,

Tinkal Patel.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully described your enjoyment of the course, mentioned your post-course baking activities, and suggested an Italian cuisine course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a course director. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention the trainer was 'very good' and 'polite', providing a specific example of a technique learned would have strengthened the response. Similarly, the suggestion for the Italian course is brief. To reach a higher band, aim to expand on your ideas with more descriptive detail while maintaining the formal structure.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Since then', and 'Lastly' to guide the reader through the text. However, the transition between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. For example, the sentence 'And it turns out super delicious' starts with a conjunction that is better suited for informal speech rather than a formal letter. Additionally, the paragraphing is functional, but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect your thoughts more fluidly rather than relying on simple sequence markers.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'cuisine', 'consideration', and 'techniques'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'bake a different kind of breads' (should be 'different kinds of bread') and 'learned baking with fun' (which sounds slightly unnatural). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and variety of less common lexical items that would be expected at a higher band level. Focusing on more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing will help improve your score in this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I have completed a Bake with Fun cookery course last week' (the use of present perfect with a specific past time marker is incorrect; it should be 'I completed'), and 'everyone would love to learn that how to make' (the 'that' is redundant). Punctuation is generally clear, but there are minor slips in sentence construction. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on mastering tense consistency and eliminating redundant words to improve your accuracy.
