Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my gratitude towards the course I completed recently. This course become a milestome for me. The time I spend with colleagues and staff members while learning is memorable. We worked in a team, and tried to cook new dishes. Sometimes, we use high amount of species, which result to become an unusual taste. Afterward we got bad comments from our seniors. Overall, this milestone rejuvenates me whenever I thought about this quality time.
I had completed all fifty dishes before I left the school, and I also gained knowledge on making numerous types of drinks. Although I thought cooking is difficult for me, by the time I finished the first week, it becomes the most easier activity for me. Now I am able to make any of the northern and southern dish.
I would suggest if you could add chinese recipeis in your curriculum because it cannot only becoming famous in local market but also often the first choice of most of the food lovers.
I hope this initiative would be taken into consideration at your earliest convenience.
Yours faithfully,
Gurdeep Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing what you enjoyed, mentioning your cooking practice since the course, and suggesting a new course. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a course director. However, some ideas are slightly underdeveloped or unclear. For instance, the mention of 'bad comments from our seniors' is a bit confusing in the context of a positive review, and the description of the cooking experience could be more specific to show a clearer connection to the course content. Overall, the response covers the requirements well, but the clarity of your ideas could be improved to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Although', 'Now', and 'Overall' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and there are instances where the connection between ideas is slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the team-work experience and the mention of 'bad comments'. Improving the use of more sophisticated linking phrases would help the progression of your ideas feel more natural and fluid.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, such as 'rejuvenates', 'gratitude', and 'curriculum'. However, there are several errors in word choice and spelling that occasionally impede clarity, such as 'milestome' (milestone), 'species' (spices), and 'recipeis' (recipes). Additionally, some phrases are slightly unnatural, such as 'result to become an unusual taste'. To improve, focus on using more precise vocabulary and checking the spelling of common words. You are attempting to use a wider range of vocabulary, which is good, but accuracy needs to be more consistent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use some complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and articles. For example, 'This course become a milestome' should be 'This course became a milestone', and 'it becomes the most easier activity' contains a double comparative error. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of your writing.
