Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mr. Smith,

I am really overwhelmed to describe my wonderful thoughts on the short cooking course that I had completed last month in this letter.

There are numerous things that I recall from that part such as the teaching style of the tutors, multiple facilities, and some short tricks about making dishes effortlessly. However, it was untidy sometimes, but after informing the staff they managed to clean appropriately.

Undoubtedly, I have already tried multifarious items, making by myself with deliberately taking notes from some famous as well as popular YouTube channels. Interestingly, as soon as the session gets over from the next day, I had started cooking and tasting everything which I like. Therefore, a guidance from teacher created positivity in my mind to grab it instantly for the betterment of my life.

Unfortunately, a lack of experience still seen mainly towards Punjabi cuisines. As a result, I recommend you to start it for becoming convenient for my side and may considerably be helpful to the other's as well.

I hope you understand my ideas and response adequately.

Kind regards,

Dhaval Thakkar

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully described what you enjoyed, mentioned your cooking practice since the course, and suggested a new course. However, the tone is slightly inconsistent; while you addressed the director, the opening sentence is overly dramatic ('really overwhelmed to describe my wonderful thoughts'), and the suggestion for a Punjabi cuisine course is a bit vague regarding why it would benefit the school. To improve, ensure your tone remains professional and focused on providing constructive feedback rather than overly emotional language. The ideas are relevant, but could be developed with more specific examples of what you learned.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each addressing a specific bullet point. You use some cohesive devices like 'However,' 'Undoubtedly,' and 'Therefore' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'as soon as the session gets over from the next day.' The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the third paragraph where the connection between the teacher's guidance and your personal life is somewhat abrupt. Improving the flow between sentences would help the text read more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary, attempting some less common items like 'multifarious' and 'effortlessly.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice or collocation errors, such as 'making by myself' instead of 'cooking by myself' and 'grab it instantly' which is not the correct idiomatic usage here. The phrase 'convenient for my side' is also non-standard. While your meaning is generally clear, the precision of your vocabulary needs to be refined to move into a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. For example, 'as soon as the session gets over from the next day, I had started cooking' contains tense errors and awkward phrasing. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'a guidance' (uncountable) and 'the other's' (incorrect pluralization). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to limit the score.
