Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Director,

Hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter toward the feedback on the course as well as the recommendations to future interest of courses.

Starting with, I really enjoyed the cookery course which I took. Apparently, it was for beginners to practise and execute likewise. However, I loved the way its was curated, the fun with the food elements and along with the partners task periods.

Moreover, the instructor was very helpful throughout the session while the Ai chat encourage to generate new ideas to experiment upon.

Lastly, I would like to suggest that you can try to create a new course in which students can generate their own receipes and experiment on the found ideas and sell it to the people in local area to try out.

I appreciate your time and effort towards it. I will be waiting to here from you soon.

Sincerely,

Daisy

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The letter covers all three bullet points: describing the course, mentioning cooking frequency, and suggesting a new course. However, the second bullet point regarding how much cooking you have done since the course is missing entirely. You mentioned the instructor and the AI chat, but you did not state how often you have cooked since the course ended. This is a significant omission. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though the opening and closing could be more standard. To improve, ensure every bullet point is explicitly addressed with a full sentence or two.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'Starting with', 'Moreover', and 'Lastly' to signal the progression of ideas. However, some transitions are slightly awkward or unnatural, such as 'Starting with' instead of 'To begin with'. The referencing is generally clear, but the connection between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate for a letter format, and the overall flow is sufficient to convey your message without confusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to complete the task, but it is somewhat limited and occasionally imprecise. For example, 'toward the feedback' is not standard collocation; 'regarding the feedback' would be better. You use some specific terms like 'curated' and 'experiment', which is good, but there are errors in word choice, such as 'receipes' (spelling) and 'found ideas'. The vocabulary is sufficient for the task, but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You have several grammatical errors, such as 'recommendations to future interest of courses' (should be 'recommendations for future courses') and 'the Ai chat encourage' (should be 'encouraged'). There is also a subject-verb agreement issue in 'its was curated'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency of the text. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help improve your score.
