Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

Recently, I have completed cookery course about Maxican and Italian dishes from your institution. I am writing this letter in a response of providing my feedback on that course. That was requested by the school. First of all, I would like to share an enjoyeble things about the course. I was surprised with the teaching style. Every skills about cooking was explained in detail. For example, about temprature set up, position of dishesh in oven, detail knowledge about spices and ingredents and so forth. All dishes included practice session for individual participant as well that was the best and important part of the learning cooking.

I have cooked all dishes at home. which I learned in the school. My family members enjoyed a lot those food. I recieved many compliments about all dishes. I would like to suggest that it would be great opportunity for everyone if school can offer baking classes. The reason behind that is young generation is more inclined towards bakery items. I will be the first participant to join it.I hope my feedback would be helpful to the school.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours sincerely,

Vaishnavi Dana.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You described what you enjoyed (the teaching style and practical sessions), mentioned how much you have cooked since the course, and suggested a new baking course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, when mentioning the teaching style, you could briefly explain why the 'temperature set up' was particularly helpful for your learning. Overall, the response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with each paragraph focusing on a specific part of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'First of all' and 'The reason behind that is', which help the flow of ideas. However, the connection between sentences could be smoother. For example, the sentence 'I have cooked all dishes at home. which I learned in the school' contains a fragmented structure that disrupts the flow. Using more varied linking words and ensuring that sentences are connected correctly would improve the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'institution', 'inclined', and 'consideration'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'Maxican' (Mexican), 'enjoyeble' (enjoyable), 'temprature' (temperature), 'dishesh' (dishes), and 'ingredents' (ingredients). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on proofreading your work for common spelling mistakes and try to incorporate more precise collocations to enhance the sophistication of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'in a response of providing' (in response to providing), 'Every skills' (Every skill), and 'that was the best and important part of the learning cooking' (the best and most important part of learning to cook). Additionally, there are punctuation issues, such as the unnecessary period in 'at home. which'. To achieve a higher band, you need to demonstrate better control over subject-verb agreement and sentence structure, ensuring that your complex sentences are grammatically accurate.
