Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the enjoyable aspects of the course, stating the frequency of cooking since the course, and suggesting a new course topic. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a course director. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of what was enjoyed is brief, and the suggestion for a new course could be more detailed regarding the specific content or structure. While the task requirements are met, the ideas could be expanded further to provide a more comprehensive response. The letter follows the required format and includes the necessary opening and closing.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between sentences is often abrupt, and there is a lack of varied linking words to connect ideas smoothly. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'I really like that thing the way they desigine the course'. Improving the use of transition signals and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to their antecedents would significantly enhance the flow and logical progression of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'wonderfull', 'desigine', 'instructer', 'activtites', and 'authortiy', which distract the reader. The range of vocabulary is somewhat basic, relying on simple descriptors like 'friendly' and 'good'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise collocations and a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary related to cooking and education. Additionally, ensure that you proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes that could have been avoided.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'learning multiple type of cooking ways' (should be 'types'), 'After i done with the course' (missing verb 'have'), and 'my cooking skill i very improved' (incorrect verb usage). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and sentence boundaries. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage would be beneficial.
