Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing a letter regarding a cookery course that I enjoyed a lot at your school. Firstly, I spent quality time with your staff and my mates. Every day we had a new challenge and a new task, which I enjoyed a lot.
I have a great interest in cooking. After I have done with this course now I cook daily at home and my family appreciates me when I make something delicious. Moreover, day by day, I am taking a new step in cooking skills.
Finally, the cookery course was good and don not need to change anything, but if I would suggest something that is include more recipes in this course and include more eqiupments, so all students have their saperate euipments which can save their time. Hence, the only thing that I want to suggest to the school.
I appreciate the school that asks me for my feedback.
your faithfully,
Daljeet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing what you enjoyed, mentioning your cooking frequency, and suggesting a new course. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a course director. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention enjoying the challenges, you could have provided more specific details about the types of dishes or techniques that made the experience memorable. Similarly, your suggestion for a new course is a bit vague. Expanding on these points with more descriptive language would help you reach a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Finally' to transition between ideas. However, the flow within paragraphs is occasionally disjointed, particularly in the final paragraph where the sentence structure becomes repetitive and slightly confusing ('Hence, the only thing that I want to suggest...'). Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences connect more smoothly would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'cookery course' and 'recipes'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'eqiupments' (equipment is an uncountable noun and should not be pluralized) and 'saperate'. Additionally, the word choice is somewhat basic. To improve, try to incorporate more precise adjectives and avoid repeating the same words (e.g., 'enjoyed a lot') multiple times throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the letter, such as 'After I have done with this course' (should be 'After finishing this course') and 'don not need' (a typo). The use of articles and verb tenses is inconsistent at times. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy of your writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct tense usage will be beneficial.
