Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all three bullet points: describing what was enjoyed, stating how much cooking has been done since, and suggesting a new course. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and occasionally unclear. For instance, the description of the course content is a bit repetitive and lacks specific detail. The suggestion for a new course is clear, but the phrasing is slightly awkward. To improve, ensure that each point is expanded with more descriptive language and clearer explanations to fully satisfy the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as the transition 'According to your class schedule' which does not logically connect to the previous paragraph. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between the class schedule and the student's personal cooking habits is disjointed. Improving the variety and precision of linking words would enhance the flow of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'method to ready tasty foods' instead of 'methods for preparing delicious meals' and 'decorative themes' which is slightly vague. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and relies on basic structures. Incorporating more sophisticated collocations and topic-specific terminology would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Examples include 'As I did course' (missing article), 'that you requested for' (redundant preposition), and 'if I have spare time' (tense inconsistency). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and missing commas. While the errors do not prevent communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct article usage will help improve accuracy.
