Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter, to share my feedback regarding the cookery course, I completed last month.

To begin with, I will share my enjoyable moments during this course tenure especially the unforgettable memories, that I made with the chef and my collegues. Moreover, I love how chef explained receipe of every savory dish in a funny way and how we pronounce the names of different spices. It was a lot of fun.

Also, since last month, after the completion of my course, I am making dinner for my family and they always appreciate me for the delicious food.

One suggestion that I would like to give to the school, is to introduce another cookery course for the sweet dish. As, there are few number of option related to this subject in this area, and I know many of my friends who love baking.

Thank you so much again for such a good experience that develops my skill.

Best regards,

Mandeep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt: describing enjoyable aspects, stating the frequency of cooking since the course, and suggesting a new course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a course director. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion for a 'sweet dish' course could be more detailed regarding what specific skills or techniques you would like to learn. While the task is fully addressed, the depth of the response is basic, which prevents it from reaching the highest bands.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Also' to transition between ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition in the second paragraph could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, and the overall structure follows the conventions of a formal letter, which helps the reader follow your points easily.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'unforgettable memories', 'savory dish', and 'completion'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'few number of option' (should be 'few options' or 'a limited number of options') and 'develops my skill' (should be 'developed my skills'). While you attempt to use more specific vocabulary, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler phrasing. The errors do not impede communication, but they do restrict the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with punctuation and article usage, such as unnecessary commas in 'I am writing this letter, to share' and 'course, I completed'. Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'I am making dinner' (should be 'I have been making dinner') and 'there are few number of option' (should be 'there are few options'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of your message.
