Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to express my views and feedback as on your request regarding your course which was done by me.

Initially, it was a wonderful experience having this kind of training by your professional chefs. Moreover, the thing which I like the most is blend of creativity and experiment with the indigenous spices and western cuisines.

I have enjoyed while cooking various delicious recipies under the guidance of the invigilator. Additionally, they had provided sufficient time to cook a specific dish in a class which upgrade my cooking skill for my personal and professional life as well. I usually cooked 2 or 3 items per day which was more than enough to learn about that in short term course.

It would be appreciated if you organise more courses like this one for those aspirants who missed your previous lectures or who are influenced by this classes.

I will eagerly waiting for your prompt response. If you are interested in further cooking courses with my team.

Thank you

Rohit

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described your enjoyment of the course, mentioned your cooking frequency since the course, and suggested a new course. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion for a new course is vague, and the explanation of your cooking frequency is slightly repetitive. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are more fully extended and that the tone remains consistently appropriate for a formal letter to a course director. The final paragraph is also slightly confusing regarding your team's involvement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'Initially', 'Moreover', and 'Additionally' to link your thoughts. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as in the final paragraph where the connection between your request and your team is unclear. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is also slightly mechanical. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus will help improve your score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'indigenous', 'aspirants', and 'professional'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, you use 'invigilator' (which is typically used for exam supervisors) instead of 'instructor' or 'chef'. You also use 'this classes' (plural noun with singular determiner) and 'recipies' (spelling error). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary selection and attention to spelling to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'as on your request' (incorrect preposition), 'which was done by me' (passive voice is unnecessary and awkward here), 'I will eagerly waiting' (missing auxiliary verb 'be'), and 'this classes' (subject-verb/determiner agreement error). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct verb tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
