Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
Recently, I have taken a short cookery course at your renowned institute, and I am writing this letter to express how happy I am about this course, which I attended a month ago, in an effort to enhance my culinary arts skill.
I felt like the time had passed rather quickly since I enjoyed the course to much. By the way, the main thing that i really enjoyed is how to make Italian cuisines such as soups, pasta, and noodles. Apart from that, I really appreciate the environment and atmosphere created by the professor in cookery class.
Since, I have completed the course. I have done cooking multiple times at home mostly every weekends. sometime I invited my not only my friends but also family to get a chance to show them my new cooking skills. Therefore, the results from both parents and friends was amazing. And, I now feel much more confident in the kitchen.
I would be interested in intermediate course of baking and desserts. It will be useful to learn how to make cakes and pastries from an experienced chef.
Thank you for providing such a enjoyable course. I look forward to hear for the future classes.
Yours Sincerely,
Lovejeet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described your enjoyment of the Italian cuisine module, detailed your cooking frequency since the course, and provided a clear suggestion for an intermediate baking course. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a course director. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands your experience and your future needs. To reach a higher band, ensure that your opening and closing statements are more formal and polished, as the current phrasing is slightly repetitive and informal.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Apart from that', 'Since', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or misused, such as 'By the way' which is too informal for this context, and the sentence fragment starting with 'Since' in the third paragraph. Improving the flow between sentences and using a wider variety of linking words would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'culinary arts', 'renowned institute', and 'intermediate'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'enjoyed the course to much' (too much) and 'results from both parents and friends was amazing' (feedback/comments). Additionally, there are minor errors in word forms, such as 'an enjoyable' instead of 'a' and 'hear for' instead of 'hear about'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise descriptive language would help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I have taken' (should be 'I took' for a finished time), 'mostly every weekends' (every weekend), and 'sometime I invited' (sometimes). There are also punctuation issues, such as the unnecessary comma after 'Since' and the incorrect use of 'not only my friends but also family'. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message.
