Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express how happy I am about the short cookery course that I have recently completed from one of your renowned Institute at Toronto about a month ago.
I feel so excited to share my feedback about the experience that I had during my classes. I enjoyed the atmosphere and environment created by the one of your well trained and experienced chefs. His teaching skills were excellent and easy to hold in mind. Moreover, the really enjoyed using his recipes in cooking Italian Meals such as creamy Pasta, Soups and noodles.
Since, I have completed my course. I have cooked Italian food many time at home mostly at weekends. Not only my friends but also family had praised me after having meals that were prepared by me. Now, I feel more confident in kitchen.
I would like to join again once you start teaching new course for bakery and desserts. I feel it is good to learn how to make cakes and pastries from an experienced chef.
Thank you so much for offering me such an enjoyable course. I look forward to hear from you about future classes for bakery course.
Yours sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly described what you enjoyed, specifically mentioning the chef's teaching style and the Italian recipes. You also provided information about your cooking frequency since the course and made a clear suggestion for a future bakery and desserts course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a course director. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, ensuring the reader understands your experience and your future intentions. To reach a higher band, ensure that all minor grammatical slips do not distract from the clarity of your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Since', and 'Not only... but also' to link ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or misused, such as 'Since, I have completed my course', where the punctuation and structure are slightly awkward. Improving the flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'renowned', 'atmosphere', and 'confident'. There are some minor word choice errors, such as 'from one of your renowned Institute' (should be 'institutes') and 'easy to hold in mind' (a non-idiomatic way of saying 'easy to remember'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Expanding your use of collocations related to cooking and education would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, 'I have recently completed from one of your renowned Institute' contains a preposition error and a singular/plural noun mismatch. Additionally, 'Since, I have completed my course' is a sentence fragment error. There are also minor issues with article usage and verb tense consistency. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score in this category.
