Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to express my experience regarding the cookery course that I have done recently from you school. My name is Muskanpreet kaur and I would like to share some feedback regarding this course.
Overall, I enjoyed this course because of experienced professionals who helped me throughout the course. I have learned from basic chopping skills to making complete meals. I love to make new dishes everyday which is definitely enjoyable.
I have taken short complete course of 3 months which teaches basics of home cooking. However, I have done not only cooking in the class but also used to prepare dinner for my friends on weekends.
Furthermore, I would like you to provide additional courses apart from cooking which includes safety standards. This would help scholars to learn more about the safety procedures that must be followed while cooking.
I would appreciate if you take this into consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Muskanpreet kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe what you enjoyed (the professionals), mention your post-course cooking habits, and suggest a new course topic (safety standards). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are more fully developed. For instance, when mentioning that you have been cooking for friends, you could briefly describe a specific dish or a positive outcome to add depth. The structure is logical, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore' and 'However' to transition between ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some of the linking could be more sophisticated to improve the overall cohesion. For example, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is slightly abrupt. Using a wider variety of cohesive phrases would help the text feel more natural and professional, moving beyond simple sentence-to-sentence connections.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'experienced professionals', 'safety procedures', and 'consideration'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and repetitive phrasing. For example, 'done... from you school' should be 'taken... at your school'. Additionally, the word 'scholars' is slightly misused in this context; 'students' or 'participants' would be more appropriate for a cookery course. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations related to cooking and education to demonstrate a more flexible command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, 'I have done not only cooking in the class but also used to prepare' is slightly awkward; a better structure would be 'I have not only practiced cooking in class but have also prepared dinner for friends'. There are also minor errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'from you school' instead of 'at your school'. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining complex sentence construction will help improve your accuracy.
