Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to provide my feedback about cookery course, which I attended last month in my town.
I really enjoyed this course, as head chef was a polite, friendly and knowledgeable, and he provided in-depth information regarding various spices, flavours and ingredients of cooking. Moreover, their methods of teaching were out-standing and interesting, which encouraged us to continue 15 days cookery classes and learnt a lot of the important recipes. Overall, this course allowed me to build good culinary skills and prepared delicious meals for my family and guests.
During cooking course, I have done 20 authentic Indian dishes, which were non-vegetarian. Also, preparing tempting and healthy food boosted my confidence and promoted me to play with the various spices and flavours in order to cook unique, delicious and tastey food at home.
It would be appreciated if you could arrange another cookery course in my town and add a number of diverse cultural dishes like Mexican, Chinese, Italian and Vegan options to get a range of students and gain a huge popularity.
I hope my feedback will be helpful to you. I look forward to your prompt decision for upcoming cookery course in my town.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Twinkle

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly describe what you enjoyed about the course, specifically mentioning the instructor's knowledge and teaching methods. You also provide information on your cooking practice since the course and suggest new course offerings, such as Mexican and Italian cuisine. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a course director. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, fulfilling the requirements of the prompt effectively. The letter maintains a consistent focus throughout, and the purpose is clear from the beginning.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'During', and 'Also' to link your sentences and ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more sophisticated to move beyond basic linking words. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is logical, meeting the criteria for a high band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, using terms like 'culinary skills', 'authentic', and 'in-depth information' appropriately. There are some minor errors, such as 'tastey' (spelling) and 'promoted me' (incorrect collocation; 'encouraged' or 'inspired' would be better). However, these errors do not impede communication. You successfully use a variety of descriptive adjectives to convey your experience. To reach a higher band, focus on refining collocations and ensuring precise word choice in more complex contexts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'as head chef was' (missing article 'the'), 'learnt a lot of the important recipes' (slightly awkward phrasing), and 'gain a huge popularity' (unnecessary article). Despite these occasional errors, the majority of your sentences are clear and error-free. Your control over punctuation and sentence structure is generally good, and the meaning is always conveyed clearly to the reader.
