Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses all three bullet points: describing what was enjoyed, mentioning cooking frequency, and suggesting a new course. However, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum, which limits the development of ideas. The suggestions are brief and lack detail, such as specifying what kind of business-oriented course would be beneficial. To improve, you should expand on your experiences and provide more specific details regarding your suggestions to ensure the response is fully developed and meets the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is divided into paragraphs, which helps with the overall structure. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally mechanical, such as 'After, the class' and 'while, doing that'. The transitions between sentences could be smoother to improve the flow of the letter. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more naturally and logically throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which restricts the ability to convey ideas with precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'knoweldge' and 'agrred', and some awkward phrasing like 'took the class more patiently'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited to common, everyday words. To improve, try to incorporate more specific terminology related to cooking and professional development, and pay closer attention to spelling and word choice to ensure your writing sounds more natural and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with verb tenses ('The course give me', 'I hoping'), punctuation (incorrect comma usage), and article usage ('a another'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including subject-verb agreement and correct tense usage. Once these are consistent, work on incorporating more complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences, to demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
