Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writting this to discuss my opinions and experiences on the cooking course that was held recently. The entire session was nothing less than a lerning to be remembered forever.
To begin with, the best part was that the instructors mainly focused on the basics. So, newcomers like me could grasp and build skills accordingly. Additionally, the module covered wide range of not only traditional methods to prepare food, but also the modern equipments such as the Air Frier.
Furthermore, based on my knowledge from the classes, I have been trying to invent recipies of my own at home. Gradually, I am planning to print them.
However, I realised that me and my friends are devoid in expertise of several cusines. I would recommend one for next summer. This will potentially assist us gain confidence regarding worldwide food choices and their items.
Looking forward to hearing back from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Shreya

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described what you enjoyed (the focus on basics), mentioned your cooking practice since the course, and suggested a new course. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion for a new course is a bit vague; explaining why you want to learn about specific international cuisines would have made the response more persuasive. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though some phrasing is slightly unnatural. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the ideas could be expanded with more detail to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You have used some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is slightly abrupt. The paragraphing is appropriate for a letter format. To improve, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single clear theme and that the flow between sentences is smoother, particularly when moving from your personal cooking experience to the suggestion for the school.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, such as 'grasp', 'traditional methods', and 'expertise'. However, there are some spelling errors ('writting', 'lerning', 'recipies', 'Frier', 'cusines') and minor collocation issues, such as 'devoid in expertise' (should be 'devoid of' or 'lack expertise') and 'assist us gain' (should be 'assist us in gaining'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of precise vocabulary to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'me and my friends' (should be 'my friends and I'), 'modern equipments' ('equipment' is uncountable), and 'assist us gain' (needs 'to' or 'in'). While you attempt complex structures, the accuracy is inconsistent. The punctuation is generally correct, but the sentence structure occasionally feels slightly awkward. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of uncountable nouns will help improve your accuracy significantly.
