Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to express my feedback regarding to the cookery course which I completed last week.
When I started the course, I was not even aware from the basics of cooking healthy dishes, but after taking few lectures, I gained hands-on experience. In addition, the instructor explained the science in order to cooking healthy meals at home as well as some short-cut tricks and tips to reduce wastage of the vegetables which I enjoyed most so far.
In addition to that, I am cooking on regular basis since I completed the course. I already made various healthy diet dishes which was loved by my family a lot since everyone is conscience regarding to loose weight, and this course gave me the confidence to explore and experiment dishes from the different continent of the world.
Moreover, school should focus on starting a baking course due to high demand of the bakery products in the market such as cakes, pastries and so on. Many of my classmates expressed interest towards baking products as they can run their bakery in the future.
I appreciate your efforts towards our course and thank you for giving me the confidence of cooking diet meals.
Kind regards,
Krisha

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response covers all three bullet points effectively. You clearly describe what you enjoyed (the science of cooking and tips to reduce waste), state how much you have been cooking since the course, and suggest a new baking course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a course director. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing enough detail to satisfy the requirements of the task. The purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning, and the closing is polite and professional. You have successfully addressed all parts of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use cohesive devices such as 'In addition to that', 'Moreover', and 'When I started' to link your sentences and paragraphs. While some transitions are slightly repetitive, the overall flow is smooth. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from your experience to your current practice and finally to your suggestion for the school. The use of referencing is generally clear throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'hands-on experience' and 'reduce wastage' are used appropriately. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'aware from the basics' (should be 'aware of'), 'conscience regarding to loose weight' (should be 'conscious regarding losing weight'), and 'different continent of the world' (should be 'different continents'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and prepositions to reach a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with prepositions and verb forms, such as 'in order to cooking' (should be 'in order to cook') and 'I already made' (should be 'I have already made'). Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and word forms, such as 'everyone is conscience' instead of 'conscious'. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter. To improve, focus on mastering verb tenses and the correct use of prepositions following specific adjectives and verbs.
