Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Mr. Rahul Singh,
I writing this letter to express my feeling about the course that from your school. That course is cooking classes. That course around 6 months of course. I really enjoy and i had learned so many things. Mentors are very friendly they teach us like a family member. If any student did a mistake they never demotivate him, also they help them and encourage student to try again that things is very good I have seen.
During the course I have cooked so many dishes by my own. In the beginning I was not good in cooking but with the help of teachers now I am excellent in cooking. I can say that I am master in veg dishes.
Although every things are perfect but there are some more things that I think school should add on, like all courses about fried masala cooking in short course but there are some students they want to learn lean dishes. if school managements think bout that will be very good for school as well as students. and school can offers veg dishes and non veg cooking offer by separate courses.
In the ends of that I want to say that this cookery school is very good for new beginners.
Thanks you,
Mohit.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: describing enjoyment, mentioning cooking frequency, and suggesting a new course. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion for a 'lean dishes' course is a bit vague, and the explanation of the current course's benefits is repetitive. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a course director, though it lacks the formal polish expected in a professional context. To improve, you should expand on your suggestions with more specific details and ensure the purpose of the letter is clearly articulated from the opening paragraph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. For example, 'In the ends of that' is an incorrect transition, and the connection between sentences is often abrupt. There is a lack of variety in linking words, which makes the flow feel somewhat disjointed. To improve, focus on using a wider range of cohesive devices such as 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' or 'in addition' to connect your ideas more naturally and improve the overall logical progression.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on simple adjectives like 'good' and 'nice.' There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'I am master in veg dishes' and 'fried masala cooking,' which hinder the precision of your message. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is insufficient to express more complex thoughts or professional feedback. You should aim to incorporate more specific culinary terminology and collocations to enhance the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the readability of the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('Mentors are very friendly they teach us'), missing articles ('if school managements think'), and incorrect verb tenses ('I writing this letter'). While you attempt some complex sentences, they are often faulty, such as 'if school managements think bout that will be very good.' To reach a higher band, you need to focus on basic sentence construction, correct use of articles, and ensuring that your verb forms are consistent throughout the letter.
