Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to provide my feedback about one month cookery course, which I did from your school.
This year summers was one of the best summers of my life and the best part was the cooking course that I did in your cookery school last month. I really enjoyed this course because all my course follows were so nice and our instructor was best. She knows very well how to teach cooking and have fun while preparing food.
Since, I finished the cookery course, I cook everyday in my house and I have tried so many different cuisines. My family is so happy with my cooking now and I am also satisfied with my cooking. After learning cooking, I do not need to order online food or ask my mother to cook for me. Moreover, I can help my friends also if there is any house party or small event at their houses.
Although the cookery course I did was a comprehensive course and it covers more than six cuisines from different countries but there was no classes for sea food. I would like to suggest you to add a separate course with all the sea food recipes like fish, crab and lobster.
Thank you to consider my feedback and I look forward to hearing from you for new courses.
Kind regards,
Jassmeet Singh,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described your enjoyment of the course, explained your cooking habits since finishing, and provided a clear suggestion for a new course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a course director. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing enough detail to satisfy the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, ensure that your opening and closing statements are slightly more formal and polished, as the current phrasing is a bit simplistic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'Although' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences could be smoother. Some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more precise. For example, 'Since, I finished...' is slightly awkward; a better structure would be 'Since finishing the course...'. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'cuisines', 'instructor', and 'comprehensive'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'course follows' (likely meaning 'course fellows' or 'classmates') and 'online food' (which should be 'takeaway' or 'food delivery'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing like 'cooking' and 'course' in every sentence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully communicate your ideas, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'This year summers was' (subject-verb agreement), 'there was no classes' (should be 'there were no classes'), and 'Thank you to consider' (should be 'Thank you for considering'). These errors are frequent but do not impede the overall meaning of your letter. Increasing your control over verb tenses and subject-verb agreement will help you achieve a higher score.
