Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to give you feedback on the cookery course which I have attended on last month.
To elaborate, I had great experience with this course. The most interesting fact is that it has started from the basic knowledge and skills. The chief has introduced basic recipies to advanced ones quickly. Moreover, his culinary skills were impressive, with the trying basic indian spices to mix and match with another herbs.
After finishing the course, I have made almost every items of food at my home. One day, I made paneer biryani pulao which is challanging and time-consuming, luckily all the guests were impressed by my skills.
I would definitely recommend to add another course for desserts and indian sweets such as shira, kajukatri and so on as mostly people are having a sweet tooth.
I hope you can offer same cooking course in future and I am really glad I choose your place to learn cooking.
Yours sincerely,
Pragati Nanera

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described your enjoyment of the course, provided details about your cooking practice since the course, and suggested a new course for desserts. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a course director. To improve, ensure you provide slightly more depth in your descriptions. For example, when mentioning the 'basic knowledge,' you could briefly explain why that specific approach was beneficial for your learning. Overall, the response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific point from the prompt, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'After finishing the course' to link your thoughts. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that transitions between sentences are smoother. Some sentences feel slightly disconnected, such as the transition between the chef's skills and the specific spices mentioned. Overall, the organization is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use topic-specific terms like 'culinary skills,' 'time-consuming,' and 'sweet tooth.' There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'chief' instead of 'chef,' 'recipies' instead of 'recipes,' and 'indian' should be capitalized as 'Indian.' Additionally, 'trying basic indian spices to mix and match with another herbs' is slightly awkward in terms of collocation. Focusing on more precise word choices and checking spelling will help you reach a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, 'which I have attended on last month' is incorrect; it should be 'which I attended last month.' You also have issues with article usage ('the trying basic indian spices') and pluralization ('almost every items'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Working on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions will significantly improve your accuracy.
