Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writting to express my gratitude and give some feedbacks related to the cookery course I have done in last two months in cookery school.
The whole period we spend in the school were joyful and meaningful. While engaging in cake decoration session and beverage session we amazed with the fascinating designs that we were practiced. Particularly, whole time we spend without any stress and with curiocity.
Moreover, it is my pleasure to inform you that I practiced all the menus I learned in the course personally in my home and with my friends. All were satisfied and appreciated the taste and the appearance of not only my main dishes and bakery items but also delicious juices and milkshakes. To be honest, I have prepared and brought a new dessert item and bakery item once in a two days to my collegues in the office since the course.
I would appreciate it, if you could expand the course including extra classes to facilitate learnings and practicals on permented food items such as beers, wines and some dessert items.
Thank you for your guidance and support.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the enjoyable aspects of the course, such as cake decoration and beverage sessions. You also explain how much cooking you have done since the course by mentioning your practice at home and sharing items with colleagues. Finally, you provide a relevant suggestion for future courses regarding fermented food items. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a course director, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. To improve, ensure that you fully develop your ideas; for instance, you could briefly explain why you are interested in fermented foods to add more depth to your suggestion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use transition words like 'Moreover' and 'To be honest' to guide the reader through your ideas. However, some cohesive devices are used slightly awkwardly, such as 'The whole period we spend in the school were joyful', where the connection between sentences could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, and the progression of ideas from your experience to your current practice and finally to your suggestion is logical and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'gratitude', 'fascinating', and 'facilitate'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'give some feedbacks' (feedback is uncountable) and 'permented' (fermented). Additionally, 'practiced all the menus' is slightly unnatural; 'prepared all the recipes' would be more precise. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, there is a need for more precise word choices and better attention to the countability of nouns to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The whole period... were joyful'), tense inconsistencies ('we were practiced' instead of 'we practiced'), and minor spelling errors ('writting', 'curiocity', 'collegues'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent verb tenses when describing past experiences versus current habits.
