You recently did a short cookery course. The cookery school has asked for your feedback on this course. Write a letter to the course director at the cookery school. In your letter
- describe what you enjoyed about the course
- say how much cooking you've done since the course
- suggest another cookery course you’d like the school to offer
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
Hope you are fine. I wrote this letter, about my experiance in cookery school.
when I was thinking about cookery school, everyone is saying this is totally waste of time. You don't learn anything from there, but I'm glad, I have a great time, also I learn many things in this course.
When I was started I don't know about cooking. I never done it before, but after sometime i'm able to do cooking on my own. In this course I do a lot of cooking. Now at that point, I'm treating myself as a cheif. I try many things like steak, pizza, also some traditional cousine.
The school gave us trainning about cooking, but I think if they tell us how to bake, that would be nice. I suggest cookery school add some new courses about baking, which help those students who want to learn baking.
Best Regards,
Hurera Imran

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing enjoyment, mentioning cooking frequency since the course, and suggesting a new course. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of what was enjoyed is quite general, and the suggestion for a baking course is brief. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific details about the techniques learned or the atmosphere of the class. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a course director, although the opening and closing could be slightly more formal.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite basic and sometimes mechanical. Phrases like 'When I was started' and 'Now at that point' are used to transition between ideas, but they do not always flow naturally. Additionally, the connection between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition'). The paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be more cohesive to improve the overall flow of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. There are several word-choice errors, such as 'cheif' (intended: chef) and 'cousine' (intended: cuisine). You also use repetitive phrasing, such as 'cookery school' and 'cooking'. To improve, try to use more varied synonyms and ensure correct spelling of key terms. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated vocabulary and the presence of spelling errors prevent a higher score in this criterion. Focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to food and education.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You frequently struggle with verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, such as 'I wrote this letter' (should be 'I am writing'), 'everyone is saying' (should be 'everyone said'), and 'I never done it before' (should be 'I had never done it before'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. Focusing on consistent tense usage and proofreading for basic grammatical slips will help improve your score.
