Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am glad to complete my cookery course in your institution. Its my pleasure to spend time with such professional cooks working as an instructors in your college. I think spending time and getting more knowledge from such a supportive faculty I enjoyed the most. I have only seen those thrilling flames from pan when cooking in the videos, but thanks to you now i can do that. Moreover i also enjoyed the tasting part of several dishes in just hours of the day. Honestly i could have never eat that much dishes in my entire life. I am not able to express my feelings in words.

Since, after learn cooking from your institution I think, I am making food most of the time for my home mates. I usually make dinner daily at my home. After eating new dishes daily my friends are very happy. One day cook for my mother I prepare three dishes and she was very happy after eating those delicious dishes.

Although, there are plenty of cookery courses students are pursuing in your school, In my perspective you should add an Indian food course as rising of their demand globally

Thank you

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task. You described your enjoyment of the faculty and the practical skills learned, explained your current cooking habits, and suggested an Indian food course. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. However, the development of these points is somewhat basic. For instance, the suggestion for the new course could be more persuasive by explaining why an Indian course would be beneficial for students. Overall, the letter fulfills the requirements of the task effectively, maintaining a consistent tone throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on one of the required points. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover' and 'Although', to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally slightly mechanical, and some transitions could be smoother. For example, the shift from discussing your mother to suggesting a new course is a bit abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of the letter, which helps the reader follow your argument clearly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'professional', 'supportive faculty', and 'globally'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'home mates' instead of 'housemates' or 'family members', and 'could have never eat' instead of 'could never have eaten'. While you successfully communicate your message, the vocabulary is generally functional rather than sophisticated. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing like 'happy' used multiple times in the second paragraph.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'Its my pleasure' (missing apostrophe), 'working as an instructors' (incorrect pluralization), and 'Since, after learn cooking' (incorrect verb form). Additionally, there are issues with punctuation, such as the inconsistent capitalization of 'i' and missing commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent use of articles would significantly improve your accuracy.
