- suggest another cookery course you’d like the school to offer
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter to provide my response for the Basic Cookery Course which I have done at your school. The way staff teach and guide every student, was absolutely phenomenal. I enjoyed each and every moment while learning, consisted of cutting vegetables, proper use of kitchen equipment and helping with washing the utensils.
After getting the certification of this course, I try to help my mother in her kitchen activities, especially when guests are arrived. Although I am not trained like her, I generally cut vegetables and fruits, boil pasta or noodles in water which helps my mother a lot during her busy time. My mom always motivates me and appreciates the skills, which the school has provided me .
I would like to suggest you a course The Thai cuisine, including vegetable curries and soup, which is highly in demand as people are shifting to western foods nowadays. This course will significantly increase school reputation all around. I would also like to join this course at your school.
I hope that my suggestion would suite you and will wait for your further response.
Yours sincerely
Supreet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly describe what you enjoyed about the course, explain your current cooking habits, and provide a specific suggestion for a new course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a course director. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing enough detail to satisfy the requirements of the task. The purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning, and the closing is polite and professional. To reach a higher band, ensure that the suggestion for the new course is linked more logically to the school's current offerings.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Although', 'After', and 'I would also like to', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transition between sentences could be smoother in some places. For instance, the connection between the description of the course and your current cooking practice is a bit abrupt. The use of paragraphing is appropriate for a letter format. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the reader can easily follow your narrative from the course experience to your future suggestions.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Phrases like 'absolutely phenomenal' and 'significantly increase school reputation' show an attempt to use more sophisticated language. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'guests are arrived' (should be 'guests arrive') and 'suite you' (should be 'suit you'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Expanding your range of collocations and ensuring precise word usage will help improve your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use complex sentences, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'which I have done' (should be 'which I took'), 'consisted of' (should be 'which consisted of'), and 'guests are arrived'. Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article usage issues. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of relative clauses to ensure your complex structures are error-free.
