Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir,

I would be delighted you provide me a wonderful opportunity for giving feedback about my recent completed short cooking course.

To be honestly, it was a great experience learning cooking from your institution. I would like to discuss about what I learned durning the classes such as how to prepare different cuisines including Chinese food and Italian. However, what was the most interesting for me is comfortable and enjoyable environment while learning. Since, I joined your classes I feel that I become mastered in cooking.

Although everything seems perfectly no doubt , it would be great if you can add more kitchen appliances, it will become convenient and accessible for everyone rather than using a same equipment. It is kind of wastage of time. Another recommendation is that people have hectic schedules, sometimes they are unable to attend classes. When you will upload your lessons online then no one leave behind. I. Hope you will consider my suggestions into account.

Your sincerely,

Arshdeep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing your enjoyment, mentioning your cooking frequency, and suggesting a new course. However, the third bullet point—suggesting another cookery course you would like the school to offer—was not fully addressed. You suggested adding appliances and online lessons, which are improvements to the existing course rather than a suggestion for a new type of course (e.g., a pastry-making or vegan cooking class). Consequently, the response is slightly off-target regarding the specific requirement of the prompt. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though some phrasing is slightly unnatural.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Although' and 'Another recommendation', to link your thoughts. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing, such as the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, and some sentences feel disjointed. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that flows naturally from the previous one.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to communicate your ideas, such as 'institution', 'cuisines', and 'hectic schedules'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'become mastered' (should be 'have mastered') and 'using a same equipment' (should be 'using the same equipment'). These errors do not prevent understanding, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, try to use more natural collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more specific terms related to cooking would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I would be delighted you provide me' (missing 'if you could'), 'To be honestly' (should be 'To be honest'), and 'When you will upload' (should be 'If you uploaded'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement and the use of full stops. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to suggest a lack of control over more complex structures. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
