Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear course director,
I am writing this letter to respond your request for giving feedback on the cookery course.
To begin with, the cookery course is the most valuable experience I have ever expected in my life before. I have learnt a lot about different technique of cooking during the course. The instructors taught us cooking in a funny way which we enjoy a lot.
We have taken the opportunity in participating in different competition during the course which allowed us to explore distinct cousins such as baked, grilled and boiled. Instructors taught us about verity of food from different countries like Indian, Chines and Italian.
I would like give some suggestions that you should organize some small food stalls in the city where students get chance to cook food for local people which would add another experience during this course.
I hope you will like my suggestion and work on it.
Regards,
Lovely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You described what you enjoyed, mentioned your cooking practice, and suggested a new course. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, you mention you have done cooking since the course, but you do not specify how much or what you have cooked, which is a requirement of the prompt. The suggestion for a new course is clear, but could be expanded with more detail to fully satisfy the 'well-developed' criteria of higher bands. Overall, the response is relevant and covers the necessary points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. Paragraphing is used to separate the different points, which helps the reader navigate the text. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. Transitions between sentences are occasionally abrupt, such as the jump between the description of the course and the mention of competitions. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to create a smoother flow between your ideas and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several errors in word choice and spelling that hinder precision. For example, you used 'cousins' instead of 'cuisines', 'verity' instead of 'variety', and 'Chines' instead of 'Chinese'. Additionally, 'funny way' is not the most appropriate collocation for describing a professional cookery course; 'engaging' or 'enjoyable' would be better. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'baked, grilled and boiled', the errors in basic spelling and word formation prevent a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'respond your request' (should be 'respond to your request'), 'different technique' (should be 'different techniques'), and 'get chance' (should be 'get a chance'). There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to suggest a lack of control over complex structures. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
