Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to give my feedback on the short cookery course I completed last month. The thing which I liked the most was the quality of food products that was provided by your school.
Since, the completion of my course I have started to cook twice a week now, before that I hardly used to cook anything. By pursuing this course I got an opportunity to meet variety of people which to belongs different ethnicity and race, by having a chance of communicating with them I learned different recipes of cuisine from them and also as I am a very introvert person I was able to make some friends by coming onto this school.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time here but only downside I found in your offering of courses is that there is no availabilty of Chinese cuisines in your school it's a gentle request from my side that in future I hope to see in the curriculum. I appreciate that you gave me an chances to make me learn that how we can cook by ourselves.
Your Regards,
Steve

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing what you enjoyed, mentioning your cooking frequency, and suggesting a new course. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention meeting people of different ethnicities, this could be expanded to explain how that specifically enhanced your learning experience. The suggestion for a Chinese cuisine course is clear, but the letter could be more persuasive if you explained why you believe this would be a popular addition to their curriculum. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the depth of the content could be improved to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from feedback to personal impact and finally to suggestions. Paragraphing is present, though the body of the letter feels like one large block of text. Using more distinct paragraph breaks between the three main points would improve the visual structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'Since' and 'by having a chance of', but some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The flow between sentences is generally clear, but some phrasing, such as 'by coming onto this school', is slightly awkward, which occasionally disrupts the natural progression of your ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'ethnicity', 'curriculum', and 'introvert'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors. For example, you use 'availabilty' (spelling error) and 'to belongs' (grammatical error). Phrases like 'coming onto this school' and 'gave me an chances' are not natural collocations. To improve, focus on using more precise verbs and nouns. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, it lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher bands, and some errors in word formation are noticeable.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'The thing which I liked the most was...' and 'By pursuing this course I got an opportunity...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. Examples include 'that was provided' (should be 'were provided' to agree with 'products'), 'which to belongs' (incorrect verb form), and 'gave me an chances' (incorrect article and pluralization). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
