Student answer (Band 6.5)

Answer :-

Dear Sir,

I am writing to share my valuable experience in your renowned cookery school, 'The Chef's Makers', which would facilitates students to pursue their career in this field.

What I enjoyed most about this cookery course was the teaching style, and patiently explained the basic skills by your well-qualified chefs to prepare all kinds of traditional dishes. Moreover, they provide me a chance to prepare making delicious food by my own, which assists me to become more independent or a self-reliant.

I learned quite a lot about the useful skills required for cooking. During the course, I learned how to chop vegetables, and how to use different ingredients to prepare delicious authentic Indian food. Therefore, I become more confident in cooking, as I am now able to prepare some Italian and Indian dishes for my family myself and my family.

It would be grateful if school could introduce the foundational technique course which would assist learners about the knife skills, heat control, and basic stocks rather than just following specific recipes.

I hope for a kind consideration and thank you for asking my perspective.

Yours faithfully,

Mohit Kumar.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described what you enjoyed (the teaching style), mentioned your cooking practice since the course, and suggested a new course (foundational techniques). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention enjoying the teaching style, you could have provided more specific detail about what made it effective. The letter is well-structured and follows the required format, clearly communicating your purpose to the course director.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'Therefore,' and 'During the course' to link your sentences. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the redundant phrase 'myself and my family' at the end of the third paragraph. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and the structure is appropriate for a formal letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'renowned,' 'authentic,' and 'foundational.' There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'which would facilitates' (should be 'facilitates') and 'prepare making delicious food' (should be 'prepare delicious food'). Additionally, 'It would be grateful if school could' is an incorrect construction; it should be 'I would be grateful if the school could.' While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision in your word usage.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical inaccuracies throughout the text. For example, 'which would facilitates' contains a subject-verb agreement error, and 'patiently explained the basic skills by your well-qualified chefs' is a passive construction that lacks a clear subject. You also have issues with articles (e.g., 'if school could' instead of 'if the school could'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Increasing your control over verb forms and articles will help improve your score.
