Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

It is my pleasure to express my feedback regarding the cookery course i attended last month.

One of the particular quality I would love to highlight is that I loved multiple cuisines which were taught during the course. I love Italian pizzas, and tutor was so kind enough to narrate all steps in depth. I would be very dishonest if I don't mention the tutor's understanding of each individual student's interests. He was kind enough to help each student to teach his interested dishes even after the course timings.

My perspective towards cooking has dramatically changed since I attended the course. since I attended the course, Now I made bi-weekly pizzas for my wife and kids; they love that and appreciate my cooking. I have also re arranged my kitchen as per the best cooking manuals the tutor handed over and taught us.

Regretfully, my grandmother has recently been diagnosed with diabetics, and she has been advised by doctor to be on low calorie and carbohydrates diet. Therefore, I am looking for a course whereby i can gain more knowledge on the healthy low carb diet food.

Once again, thanks for asking the feedback and I look forward to see your response on the suggested course i mentioned above.

Your faithfully,

Muhammad Waqass

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly describe the positive aspects of the course, such as the tutor's attentiveness and the variety of cuisines. You also explain your current cooking habits and provide a logical suggestion for a future course based on your grandmother's health needs. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a course director. To reach a higher band, ensure that all ideas are fully developed; for instance, you could have elaborated slightly more on the specific techniques you learned during the course to add more depth to your feedback.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is well-organized with a clear logical progression. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your ideas easily. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Therefore' and 'Once again,' to link your thoughts. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'since I attended the course' at the start of consecutive sentences. Using a wider variety of linking words or pronouns would improve the flow and cohesion of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'narrate,' 'dramatically changed,' and 'bi-weekly.' There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'One of the particular quality' (should be 'qualities') and 'teach his interested dishes' (should be 'teach dishes I was interested in'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision in collocation. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary related to cooking and education, and ensure subject-verb agreement and pluralization are handled correctly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'tutor was so kind enough' (should be 'the tutor was kind enough'), 'Now I made' (should be 'I have been making'), and 'diagnosed with diabetics' (should be 'diabetes'). Additionally, there are some punctuation and capitalization issues, such as the lowercase 'i' and the incorrect closing 'Your faithfully' (should be 'Yours faithfully'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Increasing your control over verb tenses and articles will help improve your score.
