Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to you about the feedback on my cookery course. My name is Lovepreet Kaur and i was enrolled in the basic indian cuisine cookery course. i want to tell you that i really enjoyed that course as i didnot know about how to cook earlier. I get to know about the different spices, foods as well as vegetables.
After completing this course, I am cooking different types of foods such as Pasta, Maggi, vegetables , Pranthas and etc. Now, in my house , my family really like the Ginger Tea which i learnt from my instructor. Everybody loves that tea which i make with love for them.
Also, i want to suggest that it would be better and really appreciated that if your school would offer basic course in bakery. I really want to do that, also the scope of the bakery things are increasing in the market specially homemade. I want to start homebased bakery. It would be really appreciated if you offer that.
Thanks and regards
Lovepreet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: you described what you enjoyed, mentioned your cooking frequency since the course, and suggested a new course. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a course director. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For example, when mentioning what you enjoyed, you list items like 'spices' and 'vegetables' without explaining why these were interesting or how they improved your skills. To reach a higher band, try to expand on your points with more specific details or personal reflections to show a deeper engagement with the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some basic cohesive devices such as 'After completing this course' and 'Also'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the use of linking words could be more varied. For instance, the transition between your cooking frequency and the suggestion for a new course is abrupt. Improving the use of cohesive devices to connect ideas more fluidly would enhance the overall structure of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your ideas clearly, such as 'enrolled', 'cuisine', and 'instructor'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'scope of the bakery things are increasing' and 'homebased bakery'. These choices are slightly unnatural. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and academic or professional vocabulary. Additionally, ensure you use standard terminology for the subjects you are discussing, such as 'baking' instead of 'bakery things'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that, while they do not impede communication, are noticeable. Common issues include capitalization errors (e.g., 'i', 'indian'), subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'my family really like'), and tense inconsistencies (e.g., 'I get to know'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation errors, such as the placement of spaces before commas. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and consistent capitalization will significantly improve your score.
