Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to give a feedback on the "Cuisines cooking course", which I had completed last week.

The course is set up to its perfect standards and well taughted by the professor, throughout the course I have learnt around 3-4 cuisines and at that I got to know about the cultures which I was familar with, but I have never tried their dishes and this is the best thing I enjoyed in this course. As I mentioned before that I personally cooked around 3-4 cuisines or around 35 dishes in total.

During my course, I have noticed couple of time that the dishes we have to make take less time to prepare, but the dishes is made of various vegetable like Pav-bhaji - it includes almost 8-9 vegetable to prepare. So, while preparing for this dishes, we have to spent lot of time in chopping, and crushing the bolied vegetables, So, at that time I noticed that most of the people lack the culinary skills. This course should also be there in the portal.

Thank you for paying attention to my feedback, In future if you need any help for the course, I am willing to help you anytime.

Yours Sincerely,

Shivam Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task. You described what you enjoyed, mentioned your cooking frequency, and suggested a new course. However, the development of these points is uneven. The suggestion for a new course is somewhat unclear; you mention that a course on 'culinary skills' (specifically chopping and preparation) should be on the portal, but it is not explicitly framed as a recommendation for a new course offering. Additionally, the explanation regarding the time taken to prepare dishes is slightly confusing and does not clearly link to the suggestion for a new course. To improve, ensure each bullet point is clearly defined and logically connected to the overall purpose of the letter.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'So, at that time I noticed...' is repetitive and does not effectively link the ideas. There are also issues with sentence boundaries, such as the comma splice in the final paragraph: 'Thank you for paying attention to my feedback, In future...'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring correct punctuation between independent clauses would significantly enhance the flow and logical progression of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, but there are several instances of awkward word choice and non-standard collocations. For example, 'well taughted' is incorrect; 'well-taught' or 'taught well' would be appropriate. 'Familar with' contains a spelling error, and 'made of various vegetable' should be 'made with various vegetables'. While your meaning is generally clear, the lack of precision in word forms and collocations limits your score. Focusing on learning word families and common collocations related to food and education would help you move to a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

Your writing shows a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('the dishes is made'), incorrect verb forms ('have to spent'), and article usage. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules such as pluralisation, verb tense consistency, and the correct use of auxiliary verbs. Proofreading your work specifically for these recurring errors before finishing would be a very effective strategy.
