Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir or madam,
I hope you are doing well. Recently I have completed a cookery course from your esteemed institution. I am writing today to express my feedback about the course and skills I have learned in your school.
The best part of the program is it's practical nature. The whole course is taught with practical activities rather than just providing a theoretical learning. There were tests on the weekly basis which helped me to develop excellent cooking skills.
Moreover, after completing the course, I moved to a different city because of work. Since I am living far from my family, I am using my cooking skills almost everyday. Learning such valuable skills not only save me money but also help me to prepare fresh and healthy meals.
After the cookery course, I would love to learn preparing different types of coffees. I would like to recommend you to add a beginner barista program in your school. As coffee culture in already booming, many individuals love to take part in a coffee making programs.
Thank you for teaching me such a life saving skills and taking my recommendations into consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Rajveer Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the practical nature of the course, explain your current cooking habits following the move, and provide a relevant suggestion for a barista program. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a course director. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. To reach a higher band, ensure that the opening and closing salutations are perfectly aligned with the prompt requirements (e.g., 'Dear Sir or Madam' requires 'Yours faithfully').
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which makes the letter easy to follow. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Since', and 'not only... but also' effectively to link sentences and ideas. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter. To improve, ensure that the transition between the feedback on the course and the personal update about moving cities is slightly smoother to enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message with precision. Phrases like 'esteemed institution', 'theoretical learning', and 'booming' show a good command of language. There are some minor collocation issues, such as 'do a course' rather than 'completed a course from', and 'life saving skills' which is slightly hyperbolic in this context. However, the vocabulary is generally natural and appropriate for the task. Expanding your use of more sophisticated collocations would help elevate your score further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most sentences are error-free and clear. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as 'it's practical nature' (should be 'its') and 'on the weekly basis' (should be 'on a weekly basis'). Additionally, 'As coffee culture in already booming' contains a small typo ('is' instead of 'in'). Despite these minor errors, your control of grammar is strong, and the meaning is never obscured. Focusing on proofreading for small articles and possessive pronouns will help you achieve a higher band.
