Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to provide my feedback for a short cookery course.
I would like to appreciate the teachers who taught me cooking from basic to intermediate level in a short period. I still remember my first day when I was scared to turn on the burner. Additionally, I was not aware of kitchen tools such as beater and different types of tongs. Although it was six months course, my culinary skills are now at a master level. Moreover, fun activities such as guessing the ingredients by tasting and smelling made our learnings interesting.
I remember, I started with rolling a dough and I ended up baking cakes and pastries. As a result, I started a home business of bakery. Nowadays, I bake cupcakes and sell on facebook marketplace.
Apart from the short cookery course, I would like to suggest the school to offer another course which helps students to learn about international cuisines such as authentic Indian taste and Mexican food.
I hope my positive feedback will motivate the tutors and I am looking forward to enroll in an international cuisine course.
Yours faithfully,
Aastha

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You described your enjoyment of the course, explained your subsequent cooking activities, and provided a clear suggestion for future courses. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a course director. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, particularly the personal anecdote about starting a home bakery business, which adds depth to your response. The letter is well-structured and follows the required format, including the specified opening and closing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Although', 'Moreover', and 'As a result' to link your ideas effectively. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from your initial experience to your current achievements and finally to your suggestions. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points, making the letter easy to follow. The flow is natural and consistent throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, such as 'culinary skills', 'intermediate level', and 'authentic'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'learnings' (which is usually an uncountable noun) and 'six months course' (which should be 'six-month course'). However, these do not impede communication. You use topic-specific vocabulary related to cooking effectively, which shows a good command of the subject matter. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and ensure noun-adjective agreement.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'Although it was a six-month course, my culinary skills are now at a master level.' While there are some grammatical slips, such as 'I would like to suggest the school to offer' (should be 'suggest that the school offer') and 'sell on facebook' (should be 'sell on Facebook'), the majority of your sentences are error-free. Your control of punctuation is generally good, and your meaning is always clear. The errors present are minor and do not interfere with the reader's understanding.
