- suggest another cookery course you’d like the school to offer
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to provide my feedback on a short cooking course that I recently completed at your cookery school.
I registered in a part-time cooking course which was scheduled for a month. I thoroughly enjoyed the course structure because it offers the theoretical and practical sessions. Additionally, It provided an experience to work with the national and the international chefs when it comes to working with them as a team.
After this course, I am cooking frequently based upon my availability. In addition to that, I started to prepare my own breakfast daily. Recently, for a weekend potluck I cooked a special chicken curry that I learned from the course and it almost took an hour for me including the plating.
Finally, I would suggest that you should considering adding some new courses from our home town, especially on the main course, such as biryani and pulao. The main reason to suggest this is it is extremely popular among the locals and also good for health.
I would appreciate your prompt attention to this matter, and I hope you will consider my request to add new courses.
Yours faithfully
Raj Kumar Pratap

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the task prompt. You clearly described what you enjoyed about the course, specifically mentioning the balance of theoretical and practical sessions and the opportunity to work with national and international chefs. You also successfully outlined how much cooking you have done since the course, detailing your daily breakfast preparation and a weekend chicken curry. Finally, you made a clear and relevant suggestion for a new course focusing on home-town main dishes like biryani and pulao. The tone of the letter is consistently appropriate for a formal communication with a course director. All parts of the task are fully addressed and well-supported with relevant details.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organised with a clear progression from introduction to feedback, current cooking habits, course suggestions, and a polite closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each main idea given its own paragraph. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'After this course', 'In addition to that', and 'Finally' are employed to guide the reader through the text, although some transitions could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, ensuring that the reader can easily follow your ideas and recommendations throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary for this task with some good attempts at less common items, such as 'theoretical and practical sessions', 'national and international chefs', and 'weekend potluck'. While there are a few minor lexical inaccuracies—such as saying 'I registered in a part-time cooking course' instead of 'enrolled in', and 'considering adding' instead of 'consider adding'—these errors do not impede communication. The vocabulary is generally appropriate for a formal letter and conveys your ideas effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. You have successfully used complex structures, such as 'I thoroughly enjoyed the course structure because it offers...' and 'Recently, for a weekend potluck I cooked a special chicken curry that I learned from the course...'. There are a few minor grammatical errors, such as the tense shift in 'offers' (should be past tense 'offered' to match the context), an unnecessary capitalisation in 'Additionally, It', and the tense choice in 'I started to prepare' (present perfect 'have started' would fit better here). However, these errors are infrequent and do not impede overall communication.
