Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under-length, containing only 90 words compared to the minimum requirement of 150 words. Because of this severe limitation, the bullet points are not fully addressed or developed. While the writer mentions enjoying the course and gives a vague reference to their current cooking activities, the third bullet point regarding a suggestion for another cookery course is entirely missing. This results in a failure to cover all parts of the task adequately. Consequently, the task achievement is heavily constrained by the lack of content and word count.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is organized into brief paragraphs, but the overall logical progression is weak due to the very short length and fragmented sentences. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate, such as starting a new sentence with 'To explain,it was...' without proper spacing or punctuation. Referencing is basic, and the lack of a conclusion or proper sign-off in the letter further disrupts the standard structure required for General Training Task 1 correspondence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The lexical resource is basic and limited. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'program', 'dishes', and 'hotel', but there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'monthes' instead of 'months', 'cheif' instead of 'chef', and 'Restaurent' instead of 'restaurant'. Collocations are occasionally awkward, such as 'it was really sense of humor' to describe the classroom atmosphere. These errors reflect a limited vocabulary control suited for a lower band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
Grammatical control is weak, featuring a limited range of sentence structures. There are several punctuation and capitalization errors, such as a lowercase 'i' used as a personal pronoun, missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'explain,it'), and unfinished sentences ending abruptly with a comma like 'butter chicken, rice pudding,'. Basic sentences are mixed with simple connectors, but frequent mechanical errors cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from achieving a higher score.
