Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
Good Day.
I really enjoyed short cookery course which I recently completed at your culinary school last month. I wanted to appreciate your endeavours in arranging such a beautiful curriculum and engaging activities. I'm writing this letter to encourage and give you feedback on this course.
The course was very well-desgined for beginners who are looking to start a career in food industry. Furthermore, the course offers a wide range of skills which facilitates learners to practice with real ingredients. In addition to this, there was so much to learn about distinct variety of spices and herbs which I did not know about before.
After completing the course, I developed keen enthusiasm to try my hand at cooking new dishes. To learn this, I started to cook food in my kitchen, especailly main dishes for dinner. My mother helps me a lot, thereby adding her knowledge of cooking which makes the experience even more enjoyable and fascinating.
I would look to enrol for more cookery course which offer in your school. The one course which I would recommend you to offer is "Cuisines Of The World". Mainly, the course can be develop in such as way that a learner can be educated on different cuisines such as Italian, Spanish,Thai etc.
I hope you will consider the above suggestion and I'm eager to be part of it.
Yours faithfully,
Shahbaaz

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You successfully covered all parts of the prompt by describing what you enjoyed about the course, stating how much cooking you have done since finishing it, and suggesting another specific course for the school to offer. Your ideas are relevant and clearly address the context of a general training letter. However, some parts are more fully developed than others, which places your performance right in the middle tier. For instance, your description of what you enjoyed and your cooking habits are clear, but the suggestion for the new course is slightly brief and could be extended further with more details about why 'Cuisines Of The World' would benefit other students. All bullet points are present and clearly identifiable, meeting the core requirements well while showing hints of better development that point toward a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from your initial enjoyment to your current cooking habits and finally your recommendation for a new course. You used paragraphing effectively, giving each distinct topic its own space, which makes the letter easy to follow. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'Furthermore', 'In addition to this', and 'After completing the course', though some of these links feel slightly mechanical or formulaic. Referencing and paragraph transitions generally work well, though smoother integration of sentences would help push your performance into higher territory. The tone remains polite and appropriate for a letter to a course director throughout the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrated an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting some less common lexical items such as 'endeavours', 'curriculum', and 'enthusiasm'. However, there are some word-choice and spelling inaccuracies that prevent a higher score, such as 'well-desgined' (spelling), 'food industry' (missing article 'the'), and 'cookery course' instead of the plural 'courses'. You also wrote 'I would look to enrol', which is an awkward collocation compared to 'I would like to enrol'. Despite these occasional slips, your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly without causing any significant communication breakdown for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You used a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over basic structures and attempting more intricate clauses, such as in 'The course was very well-designed for beginners who are looking to start a career in food industry.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('the food industry', 'a cookery course'), minor preposition issues, and awkward phrasing like 'The one course which I would recommend you to offer'. These errors are not excessive and rarely impede communication, perfectly reflecting a solid mix of error-free simple sentences alongside some minor inaccuracies in more complex structures.
